Millions of people around the world want to be successful in their businesses, careers, families, and many other aspects of life. To achieve this, they strive to get the best jobs, give their kids the best education, work long hours daily, and also start a business with the hope of growing it to and beyond their expectations.

While it’s important to dream and have goals & aspirations, sticking to some habits, events, people, and activities in your life can keep you stagnant or draw you backwards, whether you desperately want to be successful or not.

If you want to be successful in your business, life, or whatever you set out to achieve, here are 9 things you must stop doing today:

1). Always Seeking Perfection:

Constantly chasing perfection distracts and slows you down in pursuing and achieving your dreams. The reality is mistakes are a constant in life, and great successes are never built with a perfect execution. There are always drawbacks here and there, but these should never be seen as setbacks, but as lessons learnt on your journey to achieving your goals.

If you want to be successful, rather than seeking perfection and accomplishing far less than you could have, find a great balance instead, for what is acceptable, and always strive to meet those expectations. This way, you’ll always move faster and achieve a lot more.

2). Always Agreeing When You May Think Otherwise:

You should learn to take a stand. Your opinions do matter, and whatever you decide to stand for will define who and what you are. Rather than saying yes anytime you intend to say no and vice versa, be unapologetic about your decisions, and always do what’s best for you, while still caring about the very important needs of some people around you.

Always agreeing to anything will make people take advantage of you. If you want to be successful in whatever you set out to achieve, stick to your convictions and always stay true to who you are.

3). Always Thinking Negatively:

Negative thoughts will only build up negative energy, which goes on to cause any individual exhibiting these traits to mostly have negative experiences.

According to The Art of War, “every battle is won or lost before it’s ever fought”. Knowing that battles are won in the mind should shed light into how your thinking must always be placed. You must always remain positive no matter what, and stay away from people who only breed negativity.

By hanging around positive minded people, you’ll constantly be open to more opportunities, because your mind is already programmed for success. This way, setbacks after setbacks will have little effects on you, as you’ll continue to move towards your goals no matter what you face.

4). Focusing On Just Today:

Focusing on the moment, day, and current activities can help you become more productive in everything you do, but basing your self-organisation only on the current, and not planning your future in the process, will keep you only living for the next meal.

If you want to succeed in your business or any other aspect in life, while you plan your days in succession, also ensure that you plan your future. Until you do this, you’ll find it difficult to succeed both on the short and long term.

5). Ignoring Your Goals:

Goals are set for a reason: “to give you long-term vision and short-term motivation”. When you set goals and a plan to follow through, you set yourself up for success, as long as you stick to the plan.

Ignoring your goals will not just keep you in your current position, but would build a trail of regrets many years down the line.

If you want to to succeed in whatever you set out to do, ensure you have a goal and a plan in place, and stick to it no matter what.

6). Isolating Your Family & Friends:

Being too busy without setting aside time to spend with your family and friends will never replace the time lost. Friends and family are there to help you let off the steam and stress you experience running your business.

Rather than completely ignore your loved ones when you’re pursuing your goals and ambitions, find a way to make them part of your plan. This way, you’d feel less lonely through your journey, and your family and friends would feel less ignored and more inclined to see you succeed.

7). Comparing Yourself To Everyone Else:

Successful people spend a lot of time improving themselves. They focus on their activities and goals instead of worrying about everyone else or whatever they’re doing.

Paying attention to what’s happening around you instead of what’s going on within will only make you counterproductive.

If you want to be successful, you have to pay more attention to what and who you are, or whatever you’re doing, and less attention to what others are doing.

8). Always Living In The Past:

Living in the past will always keep you in the past. Period!

Instead of wallowing in your mistakes and misfortunes, focus on turning them into successes by taking better action in whatever you do. Your failures will only highlight what doesn’t work, and your approach towards them will determine how successful your tomorrow will be.

9). Tolerating Dishonest People:

Dishonest people are largely never happy about the success experienced by others. They always work to bring them down, especially if they’re getting far ahead of them.

Successful people on the other hand are usually too busy ensuring everyone and everything around them succeed, and so, have little to no time to tolerate dishonest people.

If you want to be successful in your business or at whatever you do, you must spend more time around other successful people and cut yourself completely away from dishonest people.
